Birth registration is the official recording of a child’s birth with the government. It is an important document that is used to prove a child’s identity and nationality. In Vietnam, all children born in the country are automatically registered at birth. However, children born abroad to Vietnamese parents must be registered with the Vietnamese government in order to obtain Vietnamese citizenship.
Requirements for birth registration
To register a child born abroad with the Vietnamese government, the following documents are required:
- A completed declaration form (TP/HT-2012-TKKS.2)
- A birth certificate issued by the health department where the child was born, or a written confirmation from a witness if the child was not born in a health facility
- A copy of the parents’ marriage certificate (if applicable)
- Copies of the parents’ passports or other valid identification documents
In cases where the parents do not have passports, they must submit a copy of proof of Vietnamese citizenship. If the parents are unable to submit the required documents in person, they may authorize someone else to do so by providing a written authorization letter.
How to register a child born abroad
To register a child born abroad with the Vietnamese government, parents can apply at the Vietnamese embassy or consulate in the country where the child was born. The application process may vary depending on the embassy or consulate, so it is best to contact them in advance for more information.
Once the application has been submitted, it will be processed by the Vietnamese government. If the application is approved, the child will be issued a birth certificate. The birth certificate will be in Vietnamese, but it can be translated into English or another language if necessary.
Benefits of birth registration
There are many benefits to registering a child born abroad with the Vietnamese government. These benefits include:
- The child will be able to obtain Vietnamese citizenship.
- The child will be able to access education and healthcare services in Vietnam.
- The child will be able to travel to Vietnam without a visa.
- The child will be able to inherit property in Vietnam.
In addition to these benefits, birth registration is also important for the child’s sense of identity and belonging. By registering their child, parents are helping to ensure that their child has the same rights and opportunities as other Vietnamese citizens.
